Agreslith-c : Wood pellets for lightweight concrete

This formula is specially adapted for the renovation of floors with a lightweight concrete slab. Agreslith-C provides weight reduction without compromising mechanical characteristics. Its performance in thermal and sound insulation is adapted for any kind of application in residential houses as well as in monuments or buildings.

Lightweight concrete properties

Lightweight-aggregate concrete has a substantially lower bulk density than that of concrete made with gravel or crushed stone. This lower bulk density results in a light concrete necessary for the making of slabs and other building elements. The characteristic of the product offers the possibility to produce concrete with a wide range of densities and strengths while providing undeniable thermal and sound insulation.

The use of wood aggregates instead of gravel in a concrete mix provides several advantages :

  • Lightweight aggregate concrete offers considerable weight advantages over other form of concrete and can be used in many different applications. 

  • Lightweight concrete can be an alternative to the heavy weighted concrete for prefabrication production, energy efficient buildings, reduce dead load and speed of construction. 

  • Lightweight concrete masonry units are from 40 to 80% lighter than traditional concrete masonry units (depending on the formula) and still meet strength and drying shrinkage requirements for normal weight concrete masonry units.

Designers, builders and owners must become aware of the energy-saving potential of lightweight concrete used as insulating fill for floors and roofs.

  • Lightweight concrete is an effective material in enhancing sustainability as compared to other construction materials. 

  • Of currently used construction material, wood is the only one that is renewable. 

  • Used in floor slabs, insulating concrete made of wood particles minimizes heat loss into the ground, prevents moisture condensation on the floor surface during hot and humid weather, and increases year-round comfort. 

Agresta’s research and development department, with the help of partners and a test center, developed formulas optimized for construction, renovation and interior design. Those formulas are composed of our wood aggregates “AGRESLITH-C” and cement, and each is adapted to one type of slab.

Properties of the 800 Kg/m3 formula

  • In every room and on any support.

  • For the renovation of residential houses, buildings and monuments.

  • Stocks 350Kg of CO2/m3, the slab will contain 95% of wood chips after it has dried.

  • The slab must be at least 6cm thick.

General precautions before pouring

  • Put a polyethylene film with sufficient covering
  • Take precautions to avoid perforating the film.
  • Install control joints, expansion and contraction joints,… especially in large areas and in narrowing surfaces (doors, hallways, level differences)
  • Install level references

General precautions after pouring

  • During the hardening, do not operate on the slab
  • Protect the structure from solar radiations, airstreams and rain.
  • 24 to 48 hours after the pouring, install contraction joints if they were not installed before.

Warning

  • Minimum thickness of 10 cm
  • Do not pour concrete below 5°C
  • Do not use a screed pump

Respect the order of introduction of these elements in the concrete mixer :

                Water > Cement > Sand > Agres Fibres > Agreslith-C

  • Do not use a screed pump. The mix can be carried on a conveyor or a wheelbarrow.
  • Wait for the mix to be homogeneous and progressively add fibers and wood.
  • Mix for 2-3 minutes until the aggregate is uniformly covered with cement.
  • Spread the concrete. Set the lattice tiling to half height of the slab or use polypropylene fiber.
  • Cover the slab with a polyethylene film for 5 days.

Quality approach

Agresta uses monitoring tools to measure the efficiency of its products. Every day several samples are selected and analyzed in order to ensure a homogeneous quality of the production. Each step of the production is managed by an experimented team.
