Playground surfacing

Wood chips are among the best shock absorbing materials for a playground. They shed rain quickly and provide better shock absorption than sand or gravel. A 10-inch (25cm) layer of wood chips protects children from serious head injury to a fall height of 10 feet (3m).

Characteristics :

• Certified “EN 1177” : European international standard

The standard is issued by the European Standardization Committee and it defines requirements for materials that are used in playgrounds where reduction of fall impact needs to be provided.

• Raw material : Hard resinous issued from sustainably managed forest

• Color : Natural wood

Specific indications of use :

• The material is spread to a minimum thickness of 30 cm.

• To determine the volume of your order plan 320 liters / m².

• Ensure that the subgrade is stabilized and allows the evacuation of water.

• Install borders in the periphery of the surface.

Maintenance :

• The maintenance frequency depends on the attendance of the playground.

• Remove all the papers and other waste on the surface.

• Maintain the initial thickness around the fall zone.

• A rotary hoe is necessary once or twice a year in order to aerate the surface. Breaking down the microbial life will significantly extend the life of the wood chips.

• The company “SANDMASTER” developed a machine adapted for this work.

• Once a year, after the aeration, spread new wood chips on the surface (20-30 liters/m²)

Every year, Agresta supplies 25 000 to 30 000 square meters of Ludosol all around Europe.
